Authorities reported they were alerted by a individual who noticed a vehicle in Hanau covered with reddish fluid

Roughly 50 automobiles have been covered with what appears to be blood from a person in the German city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to police.

Automobiles, walls and mailboxes were defaced, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they announced in a release.

Officers say they were notified during the night on Wednesday, when a resident noticed that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored liquid.

The fluid had been placed in the form of a swastika, they stated.

Officers then discovered many other smeared vehicles and house walls in the surrounding area.

Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation prohibiting the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.

Officials report initial examinations suggest the fluid was most likely human bodily fluid.

"There is still no lead as to where it came from; officials are currently not informed of any harm in association with the event," they stated.

Local authorities said they were attempting "to solve the incident" and have asked to the residents for details.

A high-ranking representative stated the vandalism left him stunned and had to be solved rapidly.

"This act strikes at the center of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the right-wing violent incident in 2020," he wrote on online, recalling the murder of nine victims by a gunman targeting people of immigrant origin in five years prior.
